JAH CURE NOMINATED FOR 2016 GRAMMY FOR BEST REGGAE ALBUM

Jah Cure, the Jamaican singer who has long been recognized as one of reggae's greatest voices, receives his first Grammy nod for Best Reggae Album. Since its July release, his album The Cure (VP Records) has remained on the Top 10 U.S. Billboard Reggae Album Chart and held the #1 spot for 3 consecutive weeks after its debut. Other nominees in this Grammy category are Barrington Levy, Rocky Dawuni, Luciano and Morgan Heritage. The 58th Grammys will air on February 15, 2016 at 8/7c on CBS.

Jah Cure expresses his enthusiasm. "I'm super happy to be nominated for a Grammy, it's one of the highest achievements for a singer in the music business," he says.

With his beguiling vocals and soulful conviction, Jah Cure effortlessly blends street poetry and sufferer's tales with beautiful love ballads into The Cure. The 13-track set is a return to roots reggae and lover's rock with R&B and pop-fused elements. Jah Cure co-produced the entire album with the help of reggae producers like Christopher "Sketch" Carey, Clive Hunt, Llamar "Riff Raff" Brown, Justin "Jus Bus" Nation and Trevor "Baby G" James.  Jah Cure's multi-faceted story of struggle and love is intertwined into The Cure. "My struggles made me who I am today. That's why I sing with feelings, it comes from my heart cause I feel the pain. Who feels it knows it," he states.

Jah Cure has a long history with VP Records. He released three albums - Ghetto Life (2003), Freedom Blues (2005) and True Reflections...A New Beginning (2007) - with the label, but The Cure is the first official release since the artist signed with the reggae powerhouse earlier this year.

The Cure album has received critical acclaim across the board:

"This year, Jamaican artist Jah Cure stole the show, serenading us with the hauntingly marvelous voice that I dare say is the best voice in reggae today. He delivered classic tunes and ones from his stellar new album The Cure, released last month."

STICK FIGURE 'SET IN STONE' REVIEW

New Album Drops Friday, November 13

Tour starts January 14, 2016 in Sacramento

The inherently talented Stick Figure returns with an absolute scorcher of a record! Set In Stone is aptly titled as it permanently etches 'Stick Figure' on the figurative stone tablets listing only high-quality roots reggae. Stick Figure showcases the talents of multi-instrumentalist and producer Scott Woodruff. His music has a unique style that creatively blends upbeat roots reggae with the reverberating echoes of dub.
Three years in the making and over 1 hour in length, Set In Stone begins with "Fire on the Horizon", a tune that could easily double as the opening jam for their upcoming tour. You simply get lost in the intro. The riddim is smooth, slow and hypnotic with a perfectly placed guitar twang throughout and a 'jam-for-10-minutes-if-you-want' guitar solo to close the track.
"In This Love" bubbles with a positive vibe and infectious beat with lyrics to match. "Sound of the Sea" is a classic! Booming, one-drop drum and bass amidst a tale of longing for the past. "I want to go...I want to feel the way I did...I want to go back to the way it was." Then it switches. The riddim breaks down and with that the listener is told "just a little bit longer. The music's making us stronger." Nice outro to one the gems of the record!
Set In Stone also features some serious collaborative talent. Rebelution's Eric Rachmany guests on "Mind Block", a solid tune laced with a twinge of Aswad's 'Dub Fire'. Slightly Stoopid partners on the upbeat groove "Choice Is Yours" and the infamous Collie Buddz lends his skill on the track "Smokin' Love".
The echoes, reverb and other sound effects are ever-present, yet never over done. Subtly immaculate. "Out The Door", "Shadow" and "Weary Eyes" are perfect examples.
Woodruff with Stick Figure's current lineup of  Kevin Bong (Keyboards), Kevin Offitzer (Drums) and Tommy Suliman (Bass).
"Sentenced" incorporates a haunting organ riff set a top a pulsating, simple drum and bass that perfectly compliments the sad story being told. The piano adds a gentle sense of elegance to a tune describing the hardship and heartache of being "sentenced, living in detention" for shooting a man dead. Big tune dat!!
The delivery and simple, yet poignant lyrics on "Sunshine and Rain", "One of Those Days" and "All My Love" shows that Stick Figure has developed an understanding of what reggae music is all about. Words are important but the message of a song can be completely lost if there's too many lyrics packed in a verse or chorus. These tunes are layered but at the same time simple and catchy.
"Smiles on Faces" featuring K.BONG is a wonderful conclusion to an album that you don't want to end. It's a unique track with a sort of Death Cab for Cutie meets Modern Roots Reggae feel. The riddim is lively and the message is positive with Woodruff and K.Bong alternating verses seamlessly. For the song to include the King Yellowman classic lyric "if all the girls in the world we're living across the sea, what a wonderful swimmer, yes you know that I would be" makes it even more lovable!! Boom Tune!.... Driver Pull up dat!
Set In Stone is arguably Stick Figure's finest album to date. The musicianship, as usual, is first-rate and near perfection. That being said, this record really takes things to a level that even Stick Figure had yet to reach. Wooddruff's attention to detail when crafting a song is extraordinary. Every sound is crisp, clean and superbly placed in a seemingly effortless way. Top to bottom 'Set In Stone' should be counted as one of the best Reggae records of 2015/16. Stick Figure just keeps getting better with every album. Crucial!

RAGING FYAH SIGNS TO DUB ROCKERS (VP)

Billboard Announces Details on the Jamaican Band's Multi-Album Venture with VP Records' New Imprint

"...most promising acts...their revolutionary spirit evoking the late Peter Tosh or Steel Pulse circa the late 1970s"  - Billboard

Raging Fyah, one of Jamaica's leading roots rock bands of this generation, signs to Dub Rockers, the newest imprint from the world's largest reggae distributor VP Records. The five-piece collective, hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, will release multiple albums on Dub Rockers, which will include publishing and merchandise rights. Their first studio album with label is slated for 2016.

Throughout November, Raging Fyah will tour California - performing in Santa Cruz, San Francisco, Oakland and Los Angeles. Then, they head east for their New York City showcase on the 24th. See full tour schedule below.

This week, Billboard announces the full details on their signing here.

The band releases an official statement about the news. "Many have compared our sound to the feel good reggae in the 1970s when it was all about the groove of the music, so signing with Dub Rockers/VP Records is like a match made in heaven being that they are known to be 'miles ahead in reggae.' With their experience in promoting reggae music from that time until now, we feel we are good hands."

"Raging Fyah breeds a progressive sound while staying true to real roots reggae.  You know it is made from the heart and can feel the positive energy they bring. It's undeniable. This type of authenticity is rare and we are excited to help spread the word worldwide," states VP Records President Chris Chin.

This summer (prior to Raging Fyah's signing), VP Records' distribution arm VPAL reissued their first two albums Judgement Day (2011) and Destiny (2014) to get music enthusiasts acquainted with their soul-filled sound that has been making waves in the latest reggae renaissance.

Raging Fyah consists of Kumar Bent (lead singer), Courtland White (guitarist) Anthony Watson
(drummer), Demar Gayle (keyboardist) and Delroy Hamilton (bassist). Some of the members met at Edna Manley College of Visual & Performing Arts in Kingston, but the band itself didn't form until 2006. Inspired by the likes The Wailers, Third World, Steel Pulse and Aswad, Raging Fyah tackles similar topics of socio-economics and politics with an underlying message of hope and inspiration. Fueled by passion, purpose and life experiences, their lyrics touch and motivate people from all walks of life and their lush lively instrumentation soothes the soul. Their vintage sound coupled with a fresh contemporary flare gives them a particular edge over their predecessors.

Since their debut, their infectious vibes have been spreading like wildfire. The band has already made a name for themselves in their native country playing large stage shows such as as Reggae Sumfest, Rebel Salute and Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. They have also developed a devoted following internationally, after performing on South American stages as well as headlining major European reggae festivals (Summerjam, Rototom Sunsplash and Garance). This spring and summer, Raging Fyah has been touring Europe non-stop - performing at both intimate venues and large-scale festivals throughout France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany Poland, Austria, Belgium, New Caledonia and more. They are steadily capturing the hearts of North American listeners too, earning highly-coveted performances at annual concerts like Sierra Nevada Reggae Festival in 2014. More U.S. dates will be announced for the rest of the year and 2016.

The 28-song live acoustic set is a wonderfully balanced mix of milestones in Gentleman's 15-year plus recording career. In North America, the album follows Gentleman's 2012 U.S. debut Diversity, which charted at #1 in Germany as well as #2 in Switzerland and Austria.

Gentleman will return stateside next week in support of this release. He will perform the album live in NYC at Milk River (960 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY, 11238) on Nov. 5. Doors open at 8pm. To purchase tickets visit: http://www.eventbrite.com. Then, he heads to Florida on Nov. 7 for a fan meet & greet at VP Records retail store from 3-7pm in Miramar. The following day (Nov. 8) in Miami, he will join Christopher Martin on stage at the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival and perform later that evening at Jazid.

In this epic session recorded at the Cologne Stadtgarten, Gentleman jams with his eight-piece band The Evolution and other high-profile musicians from Germany and Jamaica. The acoustic versions of Gentleman's "Dem Gone", "Superior", "Send A Prayer" and "Different Places," which have long become canons of pop music in Europe, demonstrate how melodic and memorable his songs are. He not only has a knack for crisp riddims and catchy melodies, but is also a gifted songwriter and singer with an unmistakable voice. The two exclusive new songs in the set are "Warn Dem" featuring Shaggy and "No Solidarity" featuring Ky-Mani Marley.  Other guest collaborations include Christopher Martin on "To The Top," Tanya Stephens on "Another Melody," Milky Chance on "Homesick" and Marlon Roudette on the cover of Mattafix's "Big City Life." The live classic "Rainy Days" is polished to perfection and the crowning finale is Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" with Ky-Mani Marley, the son of the reggae legend.

With 10 albums under his belt and over one million collectively sold in Europe, Gentleman is a crucial component in the movement of international artists beyond Jamaica who are expanding the footprint of reggae music.

Gentleman
One may not assume that the Cologne native and son of a Lutheran pastor would become an international reggae superstar, but Gentleman (born Tilmann Otto) has been drawn to reggae's revolutionary spirit and truth-seeking lyrics ever since he was introduced to the island's sounds. He immersed himself in the culture and music at the age of 18, making Jamaica his home away from home. In 1997, he eventually got his first break with German hip-hip group, Freundeskreis, after delivering a verse on single "Tabula Rasa" with his distinctive singjay style. Since then, Gentleman has had a string of solo hits and platinum-selling records in Europe. He won Best National Artist five times for three different award shows (Echo Award 2003 & 2005, Comet Award 2005, 1Live Radio Award 2004 & 2005) and has been nominated twice for Best Reggae Artist (Martin 2004 Awards and Reggae and Soca Awards).  He has collaborated with artists ranging from pop superstars Pink and Destiny's Child to reggae legends Michael Franti & Spearhead and Barrington Levy. After over a decade under the label Four Music, he moved to Universal Germany in 2010 and has since released 5 albums.

JAH CURE'S EAGERLY-AWAITED STUDIO ALBUM "THE CURE" TO BE RELEASED JULY 10 ON VP RECORDS

On July 10, 2015, Jah Cure will release his new studio album The Cure (VP Records). Recently hailed by NPR as "a voice that sounds as if he's wringing out passion from every note" and once described by the Los Angeles Times as "a brilliant crooner of Bob Marley-esque love-and-peace reggae," the Jamaican-born singer has long been recognized as one of the island's greatest voices. With his beguiling vocals and soulful conviction, Cure effortlessly blends street poetry and sufferer's tales with beautiful love ballads into one cohesive collection. The 13-track set is a return to roots reggae and lover's rock with R&B and pop-fused elements.

Jah Cure co-produced the entire album with the help of reggae producers like Christopher "Sketch" Carey, Clive Hunt, Llmar "Riff Raff" Brown, Justin "Jus Bus" Nation and Trevor "Baby G" Washington James. The Cure features recent hits like his #1 reggae chart-topping John Legend cover "All of Me" (which received over 5 million YouTube views), "Rasta" (currently #1 on Clinton Lindsay's NY reggae singles chart), "That Girl" and "Life We Live" as well as brand new singles including "No Friend of Mine" "Made In California,"  "I Surrender" and many more.

Jah Cure's multi-faceted story of struggle and love is intertwined into The Cure. "My struggles made me who I am today. That's why I sing with feelings, it comes from my heart cause I feel the pain. Who feels it knows it,"  he states.

Cure did not have the typical road to stardom. The Montego Bay native just began his musical career, with reggae veterans like Capleton, Sizzla and Beres Hammond taking him under his wing, when it came to a screeching halt after a controversial case that led to incarceration. However, Cure's popularity rose to new heights during this time, becoming one of the fastest rising reggae stars worldwide. He was able to secure professional recording equipment and released multiple albums (Free Jah Cure, Ghetto Life and Freedom Blues) for worldwide distribution before his release in 2007. Since then, Cure has continued to top the reggae charts with hits and has released several albums True Reflections, The Universal Cure and World Cry. His latter album featured collaborations with Rick Ross and Jazmine Sullivan, blending hip-hop, pop and R&B into his sound.

On his upcoming album The Cure, fans can also hear this multi-genre influence while he stays true to his roots. His evolved sound creates a well-rounded album that will resonate with roots reggae listeners and R&B lovers alike.

Uplifting messages of love, hope and perseverance are expressed by the lyrics and strengthened by the reassuring tone of his calm voice. A vast knowledge of reggae’s Jamaican roots is demonstrated within the original version by its upbeat rhythm section, pulsing bubble organ, fierce horn section, staccatoed electric guitar and catchy melodica. Intricate layers of piano, muted acoustic guitar and rich vocal harmonies create the foundation of the acoustic version and bring E.N Young's classical music upbringing to the forefront. His bass-heavy, reverb drenched signature sound is featured on the dub version and showcases his mastery of phased out delays and percussive synths. ‘Live Love Stay Up’ will only help to solidify E.N Young’s presence as a solo artist and standing as one of reggae’s most sought after producers.
